Estepona, is it the new Marbella?

For as long as we can remember Marbella has been and still is the destination for holidays on the Costa Del sol. It’s beauty, mix of culture, luxury and intimacy has given Marbella its prime reputation. Due to this popularity the idea to invest in this area has boomed, with everyone falling in love with its gorgeous restaurants, beaches, clubs, shops and entertainment to offer and deciding to make it their second home.

However, its popularity has now become an issue due to setting Marbella’s unaffordable and unrealistic prices for many people seeking to buy in the area or surrounding urbanisations and neighbourhoods. In the last 5 to 10 years it has become a beacon for new property development in the area of San Pedro and Estepona, with people searching for more affordable property prices and the small town vibe away from the fast paced lifestyle of Marbella.

Estepona, similarly to Marbella in the 60s and 70s, is in the process of expanding from a fishing village to a resort town. The region is now growing and its success is owed to Marbella, but Estepona is at an advantage due to it’s vast space to expand with new modern development projects. The buildings in Marbella look aged when compared to the fast growth of the area and so there is not much room to expand from this point. This is why Estepona is such a unique opportunity where land value and construction costs are more affordable encouraging higher profit margins, especially because the rate at which Estepona is growing means that 5 years from now the prices will have risen massively.

Both Estepona and Marbella will benefit from the increased growth and modernisation of Estepona helping the area remain as one of the greatest resort destinations in Europe, as it deserves.
